PM'S WIFE AIMS TO BRING ISLAMIC FASHION TO AMERICA
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor hopes to convey her intention to United States First Lady Michelle Obama to bring Islamic fashion to America.
She said the intention could be made known if there is a gathering of wives
of leaders attending the Nuclear Conference in Washington in April.
"I have been informed that Prime Minister Najib Razak has been invited by
(US President) Barack Obama to attend the conference.
"I hope to accompany him and put forward my aim of bringing Islamic fashion
to the US and other western countries," she told reporters after speaking at the
media launching of the Islamic Fashion Festival (IFF) 2009, here, Tuesday.
This 8th IFF has received RM20,000 (US$5,935) from the RM7 million (US$2.08
million) contributed by the Saudi Arabian government to be distributed among
several non-governmental organisations as well as welfare bodies under the
patronage of the prime minister's wife.
As the patron of IFF, Rosmah said a special fashion show would also be held
on Nov 25, the final day of the festival, to raise funds for the earthquake
victims in Padang, Indonesia.
IFF founder Raja Rezza Shah said the three-day festival starting on Nov 23
would feature the creations of 30 fashion designers from Malaysia, Indonesia,
Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Italy and the United
Kingdom.
He said there would also be eight fashion shows organised by various
organisations and welfare bodies.
