HOUSE COUNCIL DECIDES TO BRING CENTURY INQUIRY PROPOSAL TO PLENARY

Jakarta, Nov 19 (ANTARA) - The Consultative Body (Bamus) of the House of Representatives (DPR) has decided to bring the proposal for the exercising of DPR's right of inquiry on the Bank Century case to a House plenary session.

DPR Deputy Speaker Anis Matta said here on Thursday, the Bamus at its meeting earlier in the day, had deemed the proposal to be complete despite some technical mistakes in its drafting.

"Bamus has decided to give an opportunity to the proponents to correct the mistakes for further discussion on Thursday, November 26," he said after presiding over the Bamus meeting.

The mistakes are about the writing of the law and DPR's internal rules but the substance was correct, Anis said.

He said they wrote Law Number 22 of 2002 on the structure and position of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), DPR and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) while it should be Law Number 27 of 2009.

He said they had also written Articles 176-193 of the DPR's internal rules while now the articles had been changed into Articles 167-180.

"All the requirements have been met. The problem is only about the writing and so it was agreed to bring the proposal to the plenary," he said.

Moreover, he said, based on the DPR's internal rules, Bamus could not receive or reject a proposal but it may only examine if the procedures and requirements have been met.

Anis said the meeting was attended by the chairmen of party factions, commissions and other DPR organs and had gone smoothly without any debate.

The secretary of the United Development Party (PPP) faction, Romanurmuzy, said the decision to bring the proposal to the plenary on December 1 was made also upon consideration that the State Audit Board (BPK) would also present the results of its audit on the bank on November 23.

"If the information is correct, it is wiser if we wait for the results of the audit," he said.

Regarding PPP's stance on the issue, he said the party's leadership had let party members in the DPR decide for themselves whether or not they agreed with it.

"The party leadership will not interfere," he said. ***1***
