SURPLUS OF DUTY RECEIPTS REACHES RP2.3 TRILLION

Jakarta, Nov 21 (ANTARA) - The Customs and Excise Office has up to September this year been able to collect a surplus of Rp2.3 trillion in its tax collection target of Rp54.55 trillion in 2009, a senior official said.

Director General of Customs and Excise Anwar Suprijadi said here on Saturday that the duty receipts which exceeded the target reflected a good performance which was needed by the government in financing development projects.

"Receipts from import duties and taxes surpass the target but export tax receipts are still 43 percent below the target. It however could be covered by receipts from duties," he said.

He said that export tax receipts were below the target because the export reference price and export commodity prices were lower than those previously assumed.

Anwar believed that the customs and excise receipt target of Rp72 trillion at the end of 2009 would be achieved.
