Indian-Americans await PM-Obama summit talks
Yoshita Singh
Chicago, Nov 22 (PTI) With Indian Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh set to begin his four-day state visit to the US, members
of Indian-American community here are hoping that his talks
with President Barack Obama will give an impetus to efforts to
tackle global terrorism and economic slowdown.
Singh, who starts his visit Sunday, will be the first
state guest to be hosted by Obama in Washington and
Indian-Americans expect that his November 24 meeting with the
US President would enhance political, trade and cultural ties
between the two countries.
"The US very highly values its partnership with India. At
a time when millions of people in both the countries are out
of work, we are expecting the two leaders to chalk out ways to
ensure quick recovery from the global economic downturn,"
Indian-American Raja Krishnamoorthi, who is in the race for
the post of Illinois Comptroller, told PTI.
The Obamas hosting the Prime Minister as their first
state guest underlines the importance of the Indo-US
partnership and reflects India's growing position as a major
global power, he said. (More) PTI YAS
