Hatoyama visits Roos 'to watch football on TV'+
TOKYO, Nov. 22 Kyodo -
Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama visited U.S. Ambassador to Japan John Roos at his
official residence Sunday, stirring speculation they may have exchanged views
on a thorny bilateral issue though the visit was said to be private.
Hatoyama and his wife Miyuki made the call to watch an American football game
on TV with the ambassador, an aide to Hatoyama said. The visit came at a time
when the planned relocation of the U.S. Marines' Futemma Air Station within
Okinawa has become a major sticking point between the two countries.
The game involved a team at Stanford University, where both Hatoyama and the
ambassador studied, according to the aide.
Hatoyama was scheduled to attend later in the day at Tokyo Dome the first-pitch
ceremony for a baseball game marking the 60th anniversary of professional
baseball leagues in Japan.
