By Byun Duk-kun
SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- An organizing committee for the G-20 economic summit
opened its office Monday, marking the start of its preparations for the event to
be held in Seoul in November next year .

The opening ceremony for the special presidential committee office was attended
by some 100 officials, including Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and Seoul mayor
Oh Se-hoon.
The summit will be held in the South Korean capital in November following a
series of lead-up ministerial talks to be held throughout the country.
"This office will become the very site where we will not only mark a chapter in
our own diplomatic history but also in the world's economic history," said Sakong
Il, chairman of the presidential committee.
The office is located at the Korea Banking Institute, near the presidential
office Cheong Wa Dae.
Launched as the global economic crisis was unfolding in late 2008, the G-20
summit has been named the premier forum for international economic cooperation.
Its 20 member economies account for over 80 percent of the world's output.
