PRESIDENT LISTENS TO ALL SIDES REGARDING BIBIT-CHANDRA CASE
Jakarta, Nov 22 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he was listening to all thoughts and views of all sides regarding the legal case of suspended anti-graft body (KPK) deputies Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra Hamzah.
The president in a get-together with news editors here on Sunday night promised that the government would make the right decision to put an end to the polemics regarding the two KPK deputy chairmen case.
On Monday night, President Yudhoyono would announce the government's decision with regard to the legal case of Chandra and Bibit.
The president has on Sunday summoned Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri and Attorney General Hendarman Supanji find out about the position of the two institutions.
On the same day, the president also summoned Constitutional Court president Mahfud MD and Supreme Court (MA) chairman Harifin A Tumpa to listen to their suggestions and considerations.
"I am listening to the thoughts, opinions and position of the general public in Jakarta and in other regions. I also heard what was reported by the police and the attorney general's office although I did not make any technical interference. I also listened to the team of 8 and various sides, and have consultations with MK and MA," the president said.
The head of state expressed his stance of staying away from the legal area and refrain from action beyond his authority. He said that the party which had the right to determine whether or not a person was guilty was a court of law.
However, to avoid needless complications, a charge which had not enough evidence should as well be dropped from the prosecution.
"Tomorrow, with a language the people understand, I will issue a decision and what the state has to do with this case,' the president said.
