Black Sea littoral countries to discuss energy, transport corridors.
MOSCOW, November 23 (Itar-Tass) - Issues of energy security and
development of international transport corridors dominate the agenda of
the 34th plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea
Economic Cooperation forum /BSEC/ that opens here Monday.
Speaker of the State Duma, Boris Gryzlov is the rapporteur on behalf
of Russia.
Participants in the meeting will hear reports by the parliamentary
assembly's specialized committees. They are also expected to pass
recommendations on the problems state in the itinerary.
These recommendations will be addressed to the governments of the
countries making up the BSEC forum.
November 25, the participants will make a trip to the town of Novy
Urengoi in the Yamal Peninsula where they will get familiarized with local
facilities of the oil industry.
The Black Sea Economic Cooperation forum seeks to create a legal
foundation for an all-embracing cooperation in the Black Sea littoral
area. Its parliamentary assembly assists the national parliaments in
strengthening democracy and respect for human rights, development of
bilateral contacts between the member-states, and their cooperation in the
format of other international organizations.
At present, BSEC membership list embraces Albania, Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Serbia,
Turkey, and Ukraine.
Russian parliament is represented by twelve members in the BSEC
parliamentary assembly, eight of them deputies of the State Duma and
another four, members of the Federation Council, the upper house.
