S. Korean ginseng chicken soup sales jump in Japan

SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korean exports to Japan of prepackaged
"samgyetang," a Korean traditional ginseng chicken soup, nearly doubled this year
from a year earlier, due mainly to effective promotion and competitive prices,
the country's leading chicken supplier said Monday.
Maniker Co. said that its samgyetang exports to Japan nearly doubled from a year
earlier to 250 tons in the January-October period.
During the reported period, samgyetang exports to Japan by all the country's
chicken suppliers gained 35 percent from a year earlier to 700 tons, according to
Maniker.
Maniker attributed the sales jump to the won's weakness against the yen and the
exporters' active promotion in the importing country.
Samgyetang is a soup made with stewed whole chicken stuffed with rice and ginseng.
