AGO TO HANDLE ONLY EMBEZZLED BANK CENTURY ASSETS
Jakarta, Nov 24 (ANTARA) - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) will only handle Bank Century assets flown and stashed overseas worth Rp11.6 trillion, a spokesman said.
"We are still focusing on Bank Century funds that have fled abroad," Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Marwan Effendy said here on Tuesday.
He said the AGO would only handle embezzled assets whereas the bailout funds provided to the bank did not involve any criminal elements.
On Monday night, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri and Attorney General Hendarman Supandji to expedite the legal process of Bank Century's executives who had become suspects.
The junior attorney general said that the AGO was now handling the embezzled assets with two suspects who were now fugitives, namely Hesyam Al Waraq (Bank Century's chief commissioner) and Rafat Ali Rizvi (holder of controlling shares of the bank).
"We are handling the case with suspects Hesyam and Rafat," he said.
Previously, Attorney General Hendarman Supandji said there was the possibility of the emergence of other suspects in the illegal outflow of Bank Century assets.
"We do not rule out the possibility of the emergence of other suspects," he said.
Hendarman said however that there was also the possibility of a leakage in the disbursement of the bailout funds amounting to Rp6.7 trillion to Bank Century.
"But in this case, we need to obtain more data from the Financial Transaction Analysis and Report Center (PPATK)," he said.***
