SULTAN OF BRUNEI TO VISIT BALI

Jakarta, Nov 24 (ANTARA) - Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam is to visit the resort island of Bali to attend a Bali Democratic Forum event on December 10-12, 2009.

According to a written statement from the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday,d the sultan would visit Bali to attend a forum meeting to promote democracy in Asia.

The statement said Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa on Monday visited Brunei Darussalam to meet with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

During the visit, Marty extended President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's warm regards to the sultan who had attended the ceremony in Jakarta where the president was inaugurated on October 20, 2009.

The foreign affairs minister also submitted an official invitation to the Sultan of Brunei to attend the Bali Democratic Forum.

Receiving the invitation, the sultan gave a positive consideration to attending the forum in Bali later, because according to him, the two countries should make maximum efforts to maintain and strengthen their relations in the future.

The Sultan of Brunei also appreciated the presence of Indonesian migrant workers and their contribution to development in Brunei Darussalam.

In relation to climate change, the Sultan of Brunei and the Indonesian foreign welcomed the Indonesia-Brunei Darussalam-Malaysia triangle cooperation in the "Heart of Borneo" framework.

While on regional cooperation, Sultan Bolkiah and Natalegawa welcomed the two countries' cooperation in strengthening Asean''s process to become a community in 2015.

Besides meeting with the Sultan of Brunei, Marty also met with Bruneian Foreign and Trade Minister Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.

At the meeting the two ministers welcomed the bilateral relations between the two countries.

On the occasion, Marty also invited his Bruneian counterpart to attend the Bali Democratic Forum in December this year.

After the meeting with Sultan Blkiah and Prince Mohamed Bolkian, Marty alto took a few moments of his time to visit the accommodations of Indonesian migrant workers at the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan for a dialog with the workers. ***
