BATAVIA AIR PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING IN KUPANG
Kupang, INDONESIA, Nov 24 (ANTARA) - A Batavia Air Boeing 737-400, flight number FLT 7P-711, made an emergency landing at El Tari airport in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Tuesday.
The ill-fated plane with hundreds of passengers on board flew from Jakarta to Kupang when it was forced to make an emergency landing at El Tari airport because of a technical problem.
"We were all in panic after being informed that the aircraft would make an emergency landing because its rear wheels developed a problem ," said Willi Paga, one of the plane's passengers said.
Among the passengers were a number of NTT provincial government officials such as Yos Aman Mamulak, Paulus Tadung, and Niki Uly.
The plane took off from Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta at 5:30 a.m. local time and scheduled to arrive at El Tari airport in Kupang at 8:50 a.m. local time but because of the technical problem it circled Kupang city for several times before making the emergency landing at 9:30 a.m.
During the flight from Jakarta, everything appeared to be normal with the aircraft but when it was about land at El Tari, its rear wheels malfunctioned, so the pilot decided to make emergency landing after circling the city eight times to reduce the fuel.***
