Russian speaker meets with N. Korean party secretary: report


SEOUL, Nov. 24 (Yonhap) -- Sergei Mironov, Russia's parliamentary speaker, met
with his North Korean counterpart Tuesday to discuss enhancing ties and bilateral
interests, the North's state media said.
The North's Korea Central News Agency reported that Mironov, chairman of the
Federation Council of Russia, arrived in Pyongyang and met with Choe Thae-bok,
secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea.
At the meeting held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall, the two sides discussed issues
of "boosting the friendly and cooperative relations" and "a series of bilateral
interests," according to the report.
According to a Pyongyang-datelined report from Itar-Tass, Mironov said that the
visit was arranged at the invitation from "the leadership of North Korea" and
that he felt need "to hold talks on a wide circle of problems."
