Korean chip makers gain record-high DRAM market share in Q3
SEOUL, Nov. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean chip makers grabbed the largest-ever
share of the global DRAM market in the third quarter of this year, widening their
lead over foreign competitors, a report showed Wednesday.
According to market researcher iSuppli, South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co.
posted a record-high 35.5 percent share of the world DRAM market in the
July-September period. DRAMs are used in personal computers and other electronic
devices such as mobile phones.
Samsung Electronics was trailed by Hynix Semiconductor Inc. with 21.7 percent,
iSuppli said. Their combined third-quarter share of 57.2 percent was up from 49.3
percent a year earlier.
Japan's Elpida Memory Inc. came in third place with 16.9 percent, followed by
Micron Technology Inc. of the U.S. with 12.7 percent, according to the report.
