India a true friend and ally of the US: Senator Dodd
Washington, Nov 25 (PTI) Welcoming Indian Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh on the first State Visit of the Obama
Administration, influential Senator Christopher Dodd Wednesday
said India is the true friend and ally of the United States.
"India has long been a true friend and ally of the
United States," Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd said in a
statement welcoming the Prime Minister of India.
Dodd is the Co-Chair of the Senate India Caucus, a
position held by the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,
when she was a Senator from New York till last year.
"Given the wide variety of economic and geopolitical
issues that America has partnered with India on, it is no
surprise that President Obama selected India for the first
official state visit of his presidency," he said.
"I am proud to welcome Prime Minister Singh to the
United States and look forward to continuing the strong
relationship that America and India have long enjoyed," the
Senator said.
As a co-chair of the Senate US-India Caucus, Dodd has
been a strong supporter of strengthening America's strategic
and diplomatic ties with India.
Last week, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution
introduced by Dodd honouring the Indian Prime Minister and
welcomed him to the United States. PTI LKJ
