RI TO MAINTAIN LEAD IN WORLD CPO PRODUCTION
Bogor, Nov 25 (ANTARA) - Indonesia will maintain its status as the world's biggest producer of crude palm oil by increasing its production and quality to support economic growth, Prof Dr Amin Tamin Subandrion said.
The vice state minister of research and technology said the development of the palm oil industry in the country in the past two years had been amazingly marked by a remarkable production growth.
"We have been able to surpass Malaysia in the production of palm oil two years ahead of our target. We planned to surpass Malaysia in 2010 but it could be achieved since 2008," he said.
In 2008 the country's palm oil production reached 19.2 million tons while Malaysia's production only 17.08 million tons.
The price fluctuations in the global market have not affected production which had even been increasing, marked by increasing exports, he said.
"In 2008 the country's CPO exports reached 12.5 million tons," he said.
He said the government would continue increasing CPO production and exports through under technical and fiscal policies.
"The government hopes in 2020 CPO production will reach 40 million tons, double the present level," he said.
In 2020 the oil palm plantations in the country may reach 9,127 million hectares with a productivity at 4.5 tons per hectare, he said.
