BEI INDEX OPENS SLIGHTLY LOWER
Jakarta, Nov. 26 (ANTARA)- The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Thursday morning opened slightly lower as investors released small-cap and blue chip shares.
The BEI index went down 23.123 points or 0.94 percent to 2,438.095 points, and the LQ-45 index fell 4.987 points or 1.03 percent to 480.712 points.
The stock market was dominated by sell-offs as investors would take a day-off in the run up to the Idul Adha Islamic festivity, Krisna Dwi Setiawan, an analyst of PT Valbury Asia Securities, said.
The market was rather sluggish as investors sold parts of their shares, he said.
However, he was optimistic that the BEI index still had a chance to strengthen to the level of 2,500 points and the Wall Street index surged while the US dollar weakened.
Among the top losers at the BEI were Bumi shares that plunged Rp150 to Rp2,450 per share, BRI shares that fell Rp50 to Rp7,600, Bank Danamon shares that lost Rp50 to Rp4,425, Bukit Asam shares that went down Rp150 to Rp16.300, Astra International shares that declined Rp100 to Rp32,800 and United Tractor shares that dropped Rp150 to Rp15.200.
Meanwhile, the rupiah weakened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Thursday morning on profit taking moves.
The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,411-Rp9,425 per US dollar, down 21 points from Rp9,390-Rp9,400 per US dollar at the market's close a day earlier. ***
