India, Krishna said, is ready to engage with all WTO
members to complete the modalities and address any outstanding
issues for successful conclusion of the Doha Round.
The minister's statement assumes importance in view of
the three-day WTO ministerial beginning in Geneva from
November 30. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma
will represent New Delhi at the ministerial.
Krishna also recalled the emphasis placed by the G-20
leaders on trade talks and said, "early conclusion of the Doha
Round...would not only go a long way towards re-balancing the
global trading regime, but would also reinforce the need to
keep markets open."
Referring to the environmental issues, he said the
developed countries should shoulder the main responsibility
for reversing the environmental degradation and make available
green technologies to the developing nations on preferential
terms.
The Commonwealth countries, Krishna said, should come
together to address the issues like climate change, food and
energy security to promote sustainable and equitable
development. PTI CS
