Hyundai Motor withdraws sales unit from Japan

TOKYO, Nov. 27 (Yonhap) -- The Japanese sales unit of Hyundai Motor Co. said
Friday it will withdraw from the country amid sluggish sales.
Hyundai Motor Japan cited low brand recognition and a cloudy outlook as its
reason for discontinuing.

The Japanese unit will determine the timing of the withdrawal after consulting
with dealerships, the company said, adding bus sales and after-service will
remain in place.
After selling its first car in 2001, the Japanese sales entity has sold a total
of 15,000 units, with only 764 units sold in the first 10 months of this year.
