India pays homage to victims of 26/11 on first anniversary
Mumbai/New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) India on Thursday
remembered victims of the Mumbai carnage with their families
still coming to terms with the horror unleashed last year on
this day that devastated their lives.
Even as questions remain on whether another such
an attack can be prevented, it was business as usual for
Mumbaikars attending to schools, colleges and offices like any
other day.
Commuters halted at the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminal
(CST), Oberoi and the Taj hotels besides the Nariman House,
which all came under the brazen attack of 10 Pakistani
terrorists leaving 166 dead and 304 wounded, to pay homage to
the victims.
In Delhi, Parliament remembered those killed in the
terror attacks and resolved to unitedly defeat the forces of
terrorism which posed the gravest threat to humanity.
Members in both the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian
Parliament) and the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Indian
Parliament) stood in silence for a minute in memory of those
killed.
"The House salutes the indomitable courage of the
security forces who gave a crushing blow to the terrorists on
November 26, 2008 and the fortitude of the people of Mumbai, "
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said.
In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari recalled the
way Mumbai quickly attained normalcy after the terror attack.
In Pune, President Pratibha Patil expressed
Government's determination to track down those responsible for
the ghastly attacks.
A slew of memorials and events were held in Mumbai
with the underlying message "we are resilient and strong".
