SKC to enter solar cell parts business
By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- SKC Ltd., a South Korean industrial film maker, said
Monday it will set up a joint venture with Japan's Keiwa Inc. to build a plant to
produce back sheets protecting solar batteries.
The two companies will spend 25 billion won (US$21.6 million) on the plant, which
will be built in South Korea, SKC said in a statement.
Production will start in the second half of next year, the company said. The
annual production capacity of the plant will be increased to 40 million square
meters in 2015.
SKC said that the global back sheet market is estimated at 400 billion won as of
2009, and is forecast to grow annually by 30 percent.
Keiwa has world-class back sheet technology and provides sheets to solar-cell
module manufacturers in Japan and overseas, SKC said.
