BPS: 2009 INFLATION MAY BE LESS THAN 3 PCT
Jakarta, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - Indonesia`s inflation in 2009 may reach 3 percent or even lower, Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Rusman Heriawan said.
"Our inflation in the calendar year (January-November) was only 2.45 percent. If the monthly inflation in December is 0.5 percent, it will be more than 3 percent. We are optimistic that the inflation in December will not exceed 1 percent," he said here on Tuesday.
The on-month inflation in December would be lower than the normal rate of 1 percent thanks to low global commodity prices, he said.
"Global commodity prices are relatively stable and I believe they will bring about a lower inflation in December," he said.
He said many countries which are socio-politically stable such as China and Malaysia saw a deflation in recent months.
Earlier, the BPS said Indonesia recorded a deflation of 0.03 percent in November, bringing the calendar year inflation to 2.45 percent and year-on-year inflation to 2.41 percent.
