JAKARTA STOCKS CLOSE HIGHER ON BLUE CHIP BUYING

Jakarta, Dec. 1 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Tuesday noon closed higher on blue chip buying moves.

The BEI index rose 10.99 points or 0.45 percent to 2,426.82 points, and the LQ 45 index went up 2.764 points or 0.58 percent to 479.021 points.

Investors were no longer worried about the debt default of US$59 billion of Dubai World thanks to the support of the United Arab Emirates( UEA)`s central bank, according to Khrisna Dwi Setiawan, a research analyst of PT Valbury Asia Securities.

A Dubai World`s official said it had made progress in talks with its creditors regarding the restructuring of its debt.

"Global investors are now refocusing on the continuing economic recovery," he said.

At regional bourses, the Hang Seng index went up 119.29 points or 0.55 percent to 21,940.79, the Nikkei 225 index 147.76 points or 1.58 percent to 9,493.31 points, and the Straits Times index surged 20.99 points or 0.77 percent to 2,753.33 points.

At the BEI, Astra Agro (AALI) shares went up Rp 250 to

Rp 22,550, Unilever (UNVR) shares rose Rp 150 to Rp 11,200, Astra International (ASII) shares added Rp 100 to Rp 32,450, Bukit asam (PTBA) shares advanced Rp 350 to Rp 16,800, Indo Tambang (ITMG) shares surged Rp 100 to Rp 28,800, HM Sampoerna shares increased Rp 100 to Rp 10,200.

The transaction frequency was recorded at 38,905 times involving 1.727 billion shares worth Rp1.181 trillion. The transactions were dominated by 97 stocks that advanced, 60 stocks that lost and 47 stocks that remained statics.

Meanwhile, in the trading opening, the BEI Index went down 0.01 percent or 0.062 points to 2,415.899 points and the LQ-45 index fell 0.002 point or 0,00 percent to 476.255 points.

The rupiah traded Rp9,475-Rp9,485 per US dollar, down 25 points from Rp9,450-Rp9,465 per US dollar at the market`s close a day earlier.
