S. Korea's food prices grow faster than major global economies


SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's food prices grew at a relatively faster
pace than other major economies in October, a report showed Wednesday.
According to the report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and
Development, South Korea's consumer prices for food jumped 4.7 percent in October
from the same month a year earlier. It marked the fifth-biggest gain among the
member countries of the Paris-based organization.
Iceland topped the list with food prices rising 12.7 percent, followed by Mexico
with 7.8 percent, New Zealand and Turkey with 5.8 percent each, the report
showed. South Korea's food price growth is much higher than the OECD average of
negative 1 percent.
