Woongjin Chemical to continue supplying Sharp with LCD components

SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Yonhap) -- Woongjin Chemical Co., an affiliate of Woongjin Holding
Co., said Wednesday it has been selected to supply Japan's Sharp Corp. with
components for liquid crystal displays (LCDs).
The unit of Woongjin Group, whose business portfolio ranges from publishing to
chemicals, produces an optical sheet used for back light units to increase the
brightness of LCD.
Woongjin Chemical said it will provide Sharp with its reflective polarizing
sheets for 32-inch LCD panels. In October, it supplied the Japanese display maker
with the same kinds of sheets for 40-inch panels.
Earlier in August, Woongjin claimed that it has developed its own "high
brightness" reflective polarizing sheet.
"We will continue developing films for LCD's back light units and expand into
overseas markets such as China and Europe," the company said in a statement.
