Two professors named security ambassadors
By Lee Chi-dong
SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Yonhap) -- The government has appointed two prominent South Korean
professors as ambassador for international security affairs, a non-paying but
top-level post, officials said Thursday.
The Cabinet plans to seek President Lee Myung-bak's approval this week for the
appointment of Nam Joo-hong at Kyonggi University and Lee Jung-min at Yonsei
University, both of which are based in Seoul, they added.
Nam and Lee worked at the transition team for Lee's preparations to become the
country's president early last year.
"They are expected to begin work at the foreign ministry next week. They will
give advice on inter-Korean affairs and global security issues," a ministry
official said. "Their tenure is one year but extension is allowed. They will have
no salary."
But when they conduct special work associated with the job such as foreign trips,
they will get paid a certain amount of money equivalent to that of a vice foreign
minister or deputy foreign minister, he added.
