Lao garment export to be soared

June 3 (KPL) - The export volume of Lao garment and textile in second quarter will increase by 10-15%.

According to the Lao Textile and Garment Producers' Association reported last week that in the first three months of this year, Laos has exported 9.874 million pieces, earning over US$37 million.

The products of Lao garment and textile export covered by 91% of European market earned over US$34 million.

Canada has imported 3.10% of Lao garment and textile products, amounted to US$1 million and United State of America covered by 2.30% worth around US$870,380.

The export of Lao garment and textile products calculated to 10 percents increase in the first three months of the year, comparing to the same period.

Chairman of Lao Textile and Garment Producers' Association, Mr Onsy Boutsyvongsak said that Japan is a new customer of Laos which is covered by 2 percents worth US$705,000.

However, volume of Lao garment and textile product has increased gradually but Lao products are now facing the weak US dollar considering as an effect to the Lao garment sector, because the selling price was paid in US Dollar, said Mr Onsy.

At the present, Laos now has 57 garment and textile enterprises with more than 30,000 workers. The country is pinning its hopes that foreign direct investment flowing into the textile and garment sector will give a breakthrough for the sector's exports.
