Samsung confirms it filed complaint against Sharp

SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. confirmed
Thursday it has lodged a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission
(ITC) against Sharp Corp. over its patents on liquid crystal displays (LCDs).
Notice of the complaint, in which Samsung Electronics requested the commission
to conduct an investigation over certain of the Japanese manufacturer's LCD
devices and products, was posted on the commission's Web site. The ITC received
the complaint on Tuesday, according to the site.
"It is true that Samsung Electronics has filed a complaint. However, we have no
further comment," said Lee Soo-jeong, a spokesperson for Samsung.
The two display makers have tussled over LCD technologies since 2007, blaming
each other for violating their respective patents.
LCDs are used in computer monitors and television sets.
Sharp has won the latest round in the string of patent disputes. The ITC ruled in
November that Samsung infringed patents owned by Japanese rival Sharp Corp. and
that imports of infringing products be banned.
