BEI INDEX OPENS HIGHER ON ACTIVE BUYING
Jakarta, Dec. 3 (ANTARA) - Indonesian stocks got off to a strong start on small-cap and blue chip share buying at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here on Thursday morning.
The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) traded 12.712 points or 0.48 percent higher to 2,482.026 points and the LQ-45 index went up 2.236 points or 0.46 percent to 491.207 points.
The BEI index was expected to move upward further to the level of 2,500 at the end of this year as the Dubai World crisis eased and regional bourses gained, Michael Andi Surya, a research analyst of PT Valbury Asia Securities, said.
Among top gainers at the BEI's morning trading were Bukit Asam shares that surged Rp600 to Rp17,800, Indo Mega Tambang shares that gained Rp150 to Rp29,200, Telkom shares that rose Rp100 to Rp3,900, BRI shares that advanced Rp50 to Rp7,900, Antam shares that added Rp25 to Rp2,425, P Gas shares that strengthened Rp100 to Rp3,900, and Adaro shares went up Rp20 to Rp1,750.
Meanwhile, the rupiah weakened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Thursday morning on profit taking moves after the local unit had strengthened earlier.
The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,440-Rp9,455 per US dollar, down 10 points from Rp9,430-Rp9,445 per US dollar earlier.***
