HATTA RADJASA SUPPORTS HOUSE'S BANK CENTURY INQUIRY
Jakarta, Dec 4 (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa said he supported the House of Representatives (DPR)'s initiative to conduct an inquiry into the Bank Century case in order to unveil the mystery enshrouding it.
"We have to support the House inquiry so that the mystery around the Bank Century fund flows can be cracked and explained transparently," Hatta Rajasa said at the Finance Ministry office complex on Lapangan Banteng street here on Friday.
He said the case related to Bank Century should be dealt with conclusively so that the nation could refocus its attention on the economic field.
"The House inquiry should be supported to resolve this national problem. It should be made clear and the mystery around the flow of funds should be solved transparently and clearly so that the people will know whether or not irregularities had happened," Rajasa said.
Meanwhile, Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring said earlier the Bank Century case could have a negative impact on the economy if it was not seriously handled.
"If it is not seriously handled and is used to undermine the present government, I think it will have negative implications for our economy," Tifatul said.
According to him, the government, especially related officials should face the problem because the policy which is to be taken to solve the case was intended to save the state and nation.
"So the officials involved should show their accountability and provide explanations to allay further speculations and slander," Tifatul said.
He said there was no legal problem actually in the policy to save Bank Century, but if the case was not dealt with seriously, it would lead to a new problem.
Therefore, Tifatul said, the DPR should be allowed to use its right of inquiry on the case to put things in their proper position.
"If the case is not handled seriously, I think, it will lead to the formation of a public opinion that could destabilize the government, and that would have negative implications for the economy," Tifatul added.
