All railway operations have returned to normal: KORAIL

DAEJEON, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- All railway operation in the country have returned to
normal a day after union workers reported back for duty, Korea Railroad (KORAIL)
said Saturday.

The Daejeon-based public corporation said all passenger and freight services are
running on schedule.

On Friday, when unionists returned to work after a nine-day walkout, the
operational rate of passenger trains stood at 80-90 percent, while only 67
percent of all freight trains ran as scheduled.
KORAIL had diverted non-union workers and former employees to man the KTX bullet
train line, commuter trains and subways to reduce fallouts felt by the general
public.
The company, meanwhile, said that the strike that began on Nov. 26 has resulted
in damages reaching 10 billion won.
It stressed that legal actions will be taken against all those that took part in
the strike including civil suits to cover damages incurred. About 10,000 KORAIL
workers or a third of the workforce walked off the job to protest company-wide
restructuring measures centered on wage and staff cuts.
