PLAN-CLIMATE 2 LST
About the power generation capacity during XIth plan,
Chaturvedi said that the private sector performance has been
very good.
"It was only 10 per cent of the total power generation
capacity addition in Xth plan (2002-2007) and in the XIth plan
it is expected to be 33-34 per cent of the target," he said.
Commending further on the performance of independent
power project developers, he said, "It is expected that
private sector would perform more than 200 per cent of its
target."
However, Chaturvedi remained tight-lipped about meeting
the huge power generation capacity addition target of 78,577
MW.
He said, "In the first two year (of XIth plan) we have
done (added) around 19,000 MW of power generation capacity
addition as nine per cent economy growth would require seven
per cent growth in power generation capacity addition every
year."
"In next two year, we need to produce 40,000 to 44,000
MW of additional power," he added.
With this, he indicated that the power generation
capacity addition during the current plan period would be
little over 60,000 MW.
"During a presentation to Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh on power sector on Tuesday, the plan panel admitted
slippage in the power generation capacity addition to 60,000
MW against targeted 78,577 MW," a source said. PTI KKS
