S. Korea's female golfers beat Japanese rivals in Kyoraku Cup

OKINAWA, Japan, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's top female golfers fended off a
strong comeback against their Japanese rivals on Saturday to claim the 61.5
million yen (US$697,517) prize at the Kyoraku Cup team competition in Okinawa,
Japan.

The Korea LPGA team, which held a 10-2 lead on Friday, was challenged by their
Japanese competitors 7.5 to 4.5 in Saturday's 12 individual stroke-play matches.
The Japanese counterattack, however, was not enough to offset the Korean team's
earlier lead in the two-day-long competition.
Their victory marked the first time in three years that the South Korean team has
won the annual competition. This year's event was the tenth of its kind.
Song Bo-bae, who fired 64 on the first day, earned the MVP honor after claiming
the most votes from reporters covering the competition. She received an
additional 1 million yen.
Rookie-of-the-year Shin Ji-yai, who won against Ayako Uehara on the first day,
lost to Shinobu Moromizato by two strokes on the second day.
