S. Korea wins first gold medal in East Asian shooting
HONG KONG, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shooter Jin Jong-oh won the gold medal
in the men's 10m air pistol competition of the East Asian Games in Hong Kong on
Saturday, bringing his country its first gold in the event.
The 30-year-old shot a 685.8 to edge out his teammate Lee Dae-myung by 0.4 at the
South China Athletic Association.
It was his sixth win in international competition, including the 2008 Beijing
Olympics.
Held once every four years, the East Asian Games are a major event in the
region's sporting arena. The first event was held in Shanghai in 1993, followed
by Busan in 1997, Osaka in 2001 and Macau in 2005.
The event this year in Hong Kong started on Saturday and will end Dec. 13,
featuring 22 different sports, including athletics, basketball, football and
taekwondo.
