MUHAIMIN: BANK CENTURY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN MERE `MODERATOR`
Bandung, W Java, Indonesia, Dec 5 (ANTARA) - National Awakening Party (PKB) leader Muhaimin Iskandar said the chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Special Committee on the Bank Century case would merely be a "moderator".
He said here on Saturday it was not a problem that PKB did not hold the post because the committee chairman could not make a decision by himself.
"Again, I need to say this, and do not be mistaken, people must not worry about who the committee chairman is because he will merely be a moderator. What matters is that the committee members must keep the committee's conduct on track," he told newsmen.
He said PKB would not make a problem out of the election on Friday of Idrus Marham from the Golkar Party as the committee chairman so long as the committee could work well.
"What is important is not who chairs the committee but how its members will work. They are the ones who will make the decisions," he said.
Muhaimin, who is a former House Deputy Speaker, said he knew exactly how special House committees worked, adding that the committee chairman was a mere moderator and not a spokesman nor the decision maker.
So far the public and the media had often been mistaken about the functions and authority of a House special committee chairman causing them to have different views not in keeping with reality.
"What is important is that PKB has cadres in the committee to safeguard the investigation process. Hopefully it will be transparent and not end up producing slender. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono got angry yesterday because he was being accused and slandered," he said.
Muhaimin said although PKB only had two cadres in the committee the party would continue supporting the settlement of the case and so should all parties concerned.
He assured PKB would safeguard the settlement of the case which is centered on the government's decision last year to inject Rp6.7 trillion into Bank Century to prevent it from collapsing.***
