DREDGING COMPANY VIOLATES PRESIDENTIAL DECREE : BIZMAN
Bengkulu, Indonesia, Dec 5 (ANTARA) - Dredging company PT Pathawai International (PI) which was assigned to dredge "Pulau Baai" port's channel has violated a presidential decree, a construction services executive said.
"The violation happened because PT PI as the construction company failed to complete the dredging project on time,"
Habibur Sonioku, chairman of the Bengkulu branch of the Indonesian Construction Services Developers Agency said here on Saturday.
If the company had been serious and professional, the dredging project would have been completed within six months, but after nearly two fiscal years the company had not yet accomplished it, he said.
When referring to Law no.18 of 1999 article 43 about construction services, then authority of PT PI can be sanctioned with five years prisonment, he said.
Beside causing loss to the state, the dredging company had also bring about losses to the province and to the provincial community because the unfinished work disrupted most shipment of the staple foods supplies from other regions to Benngkulu, Habibur said.
"This happens because the ship flow to Pulau Baai harbor increasingly shallow," he cited.
Citing example, Habibur Sonioku said, previously big tanker carrying fuel oil could berth in the Pulau Baai port, but after the dredging problem only small boat carrying fuel oil can berth in the harbor, and even the boats have to wait for the high tide to enter. ***
