Karuna hails Centre's plan to send another MPs team to Lanka

Chennai, Dec 5 (PTI) Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
(India's southern state) M Karunanidhi Saturday termed as
"great relief" the Indian Government's announcement on
considering sending another delegation of Members of
Parliament to Sri Lanka to assess the relief work there.

"It is a great relief. It would be a bad news to those
complaining that Centre and state have not done anything for
the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamils," Karunanidhi said in an
article in the Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK)'s mouthpiece
'Murasoli' here.
He recalled External Affairs Minister of India S M
Krishna's statement in the Lower and Upper Houses of Indian
Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) respectively on the
issue where the latter said government was not looking at the
Sri Lankan issue as a Tamilian issue but one which concerns
the entire nation. New Delhi's response will "not be sectarian
or provincial."
Among others, Krishna had also promised to send three
more teams to the island nation besides assuring that India
was working with Colombo on the welfare of Tamils.
Outlining his government's commitment to the Sri Lankan
Tamils, Karunanidhi recalled the recent allocation of Rs 100
crore towards the welfare of the Lankan refugees in the state
and bringing them under the ambit of the state government's
welfare schemes. PTI SA
