SP to target Cong and BJP in Liberhan debate in Parliament
New Delhi, Dec 6 (PTI) With the debate on Liberhan
Commission report scheduled to take place in Indian Parliament
this week, Samajwadi Party Sunday said it would speak against
the "active and passive connivance" of both the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) and Congress party in the demolition of
Babri Masjid.
"We will be attacking both the Congress and the BJP as,
without their active and passive connivance the Babri Masjid
demolition would not have taken place," SP general secretary
Amar Singh said.
This strategy seems to be in keeping with the SP plan of
wooing back Muslim voters. After the party was routed in its
pocket borough Ferozabad in the recent Lower House of Indian
Parliament (Lok Sabha) by-election, it has taken a stronger
anti-Congress and anti-BJP stance.
"Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had expressed her
concern about the possibility of demolition of the Babri
Masjid in a letter to then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao
but he did not rise up (to the challenge)," he said.
The SP leader also cast aspersions on the Liberhan
Commission report's credibility.
"It mentions Gulzari Lal Nanda but there is no mention of
P V Naramsimha Rao.... Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ensured
that the name of his earlier boss was not there in the
report," he alleged. (MORE) PTI RC
