Nepal's dethroned king leaves for India

Kathmandu, Dec 6 (PTI) Nepal's dethroned king
Gyanendra has a packed schedule, including meeting with top
politicians and officials, during his India visit beginning
Sunday.

64-year-old Gyanendra, who left for India Sunday with
his wife for the second time after being dethroned last year,
plans to go to India's eastern state of Orissa, northern state
of Rajasthan and the national capital New Delhi.
However, the date of his return is yet to be fixed
though reports say he is likely to be away for nearly three
weeks as he will reportedly proceed to Europe for a visit, The
Himalayan Times said Sunday.
During his nearly one-month tour, the former monarch
will attend a wedding in Orissa, meet former royals in
Rajasthan and hold discussions with top political leaders and
officials in the Indian capital.
"They are leaving by a regular flight to attend the
wedding of their close relative in Orissa in the third week of
December. After the ceremony, they will stay in New Delhi for
a week," Phadiraj Pathak, a close aide to the former monarch,
was quoted as saying by the ekantipur online.
It said the former king is expected to meet senior
Indian officials in Delhi. "No official request has been made
in this regard, though," said Pathak. The former royals are
likely to visit Rajasthan to meet their relatives, the report
said.
Gyanendra acquired a diplomatic passport for the first
time last month, fuelling speculation that he may use the
document to travel abroad to build support for a role for
himself amid the deepening political crisis in Nepal. Many
have flayed the government for providing Gyanendra with a
diplomatic passport. (MORE) PTI RBS
