Russia supplies two patrol cutters to Turkmenistan.
ASHGABAT, December 8 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia has supplied two 'Sobol'
patrol cutters to Turkmenistan, the Turkmen government press office said.
The cutters arrived in the Caspian Turkmenbashi port on Tuesday.
The strengthening of the Caspian flotilla aims to protect sea borders
and to resist international terrorism and transboundary crime, the press
office said.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow called for strengthening
Turkmen positions at sea at the August meeting of the State Security
Council. He also said it was necessary to form a Caspian base of the
Defense Ministry and the Border Service.
The Turkmen Border Service will buy two missile cutters, and the
Turkmen Navy will have exercises in the Caspian Sea, the president said.
Russia leased a 'Molniya' cutter to Turkmenistan in 2008.
