STX Group wins $10 bln deal to build 200,000 homes in Ghana
SEOUL, Dec. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's STX Group said Wednesday that it has won a US$10 billion deal to build 200,000 homes in Ghana over the next six years.
The group signed the deal with the Ghanaian government for the project under
which the houses will be built in 10 cities, including the capital Accra, from
2010 to 2015.
According to the group, the Ghanaian government will provide building lots for
free, and buy 90,000 of the houses to be built. The remaining 110,000 will be
sold to low income earners and government officials, it said.
Ghana's state-run HFC Bank plans to extend loans to help individuals who want to
buy houses.
South Korea is seeking to win more construction deals from sub-Saharan Africa,
which accounted for 2.4 percent of all orders by value as of the end of November.
