S. Korea to mark provisional government's declaration of war

SEOUL, Dec. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will celebrate the 68th anniversary of a declaration of war against Japan by the Korean provisional government-in-exile, which was the center of the resistance against the 1910-45 Japanese colonial rule of the peninsula, officials said Wednesday.

The provisional government, established in 1919 in Shanghai as the highest
governing body of the Korean people, issued a statement and declared war on Dec.
12, 1941 against the Japanese government after it attacked Pearl Harbor to
provoke World War II.
A ceremony will be held at the Baekbom Memorial hall in Seoul on Thursday,
attended by government officials, former independence fighters and families of
dead soldiers to honor the spirit for the nation's independence, the Ministry of
Patriots and Veterans Affairs said in a release.
