S KOREA ASKS INDONESIA TO DEVELOP FOREST INDUSTRIAL AREAS
Jakarta, Dec 9 (ANTARA) - South Korean businesses have asked the Indonesian government to develop a special forestry industrial area as a breakthrough to overcome various problems in the forestry sector, a South Korean executive said.
Agricultural Division director of Korindo Group, Kim Hoon, said his country was prepared to provide assistance for the development of infrastructure if the Indonesian government wanted to develop such a forest industrial estate.
"We have proposed the development of a special forestry industrial area to the Indonesian government. We are of the opinion that the development of such a special timber industrial area would help smooth the development of the forestry industry," Kim Hoon said.
He said that his side made the proposal during a meeting between South Korean businessmen and the Indonesian forestry minister, which was also attended by the South Korean ambassador to Indonesia and Hadi Daryanto, director general for forestry production affairs of the Ministry of Forestry.
"We did not decide the locations for the development of the forestry industrial areas. Let the Indonesian government decide appropriate locations," Hoon said.
In the meantime, Hadi Daryanto said on the sidelines of a function to observe an "Indonesia plants 2009" event welcomed the proposal, saying Kalimantan was the best place for the realization of the proposal.
