RUPIAH STRENGTHENS SLIGHTLY AGAINST US DOLLAR

Jakarta, Dec. 10 (ANTARA) -The rupiah strengthened against US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market here on Thursday as investors started to buy the local unit which had weakened earlier.

The Indonesian currency traded Rp9,418-Rp9,425 per US dollar, up 17 points from Rp9,435-Rp9,445 per US dollar at the market's close a day earlier.

Investors released their greenbacks to take profit after the dollar had strengthened over the past few days, according to Kostaman Thayib, retail banking director of PT Bank Mega Tbk.

He believed the rupiah still had a chance to strengthen to below the level of Rp9,400 per US dollar as shares on Wall Street were strengthening.
