GS Holdings mulling sale of discount stores

By Nam Kwang-sik

SEOUL, Dec. 10 (Yonhap) -- GS Holdings, a South Korean holding company, said Thursday that it is considering selling discount and department stores under its retail unit GS Retail.

The company said in a regulatory filing, however, that it has yet to come up with
details on the sale.
GS Retail picked Barclays Capital, a global investment bank, as manager to lead
the sale of its 14 discount stores and three department stores, which have an
estimated value of 1.4 trillion won (US$1.2 billion), a company official who
requested anonymity said on Wednesday.
GS Retail plans to select a prime bidder for the deal in January and close the
deal in February, the official said.
