GOVT SUCCESSFUL IN MAINTAINING POLITICAL STABILITY : MINISTER

Jakarta, Dec 10 (ANTARA) - The government has been successful in maintaining the country's political stability as well as public order in 2009, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said.

"Even though there was the case involving two Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)'s deputy chairmen and the one regarding Bank Century, we are sure they can be solved well," the Suyanto said at a seminar on Indonesia's economic and political prospects in 2010 here on Thursday.

He said the case involving KPK deputy chairmen Bibit Samad Riyanto and Chandra M Hambzah could be solved well although there were debates and differing opinions from experts on how to settle the problem.

On the Bank Century case, Suyanto said that his side was grateful because all sides were determined to settle the matter transparently.

"President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono even calls on all sides to provide clear answers for all questions comprehensively regarding the Bank Century case," Suyanto said.

He said that all sides hoped that the real problems regarding the Bank Century case would be explained clearly to the public, including the polemic and speculations surrounding it.

The minister said that the government hoped it would uphold a clean and respectable administration and implement democracy which put the legal supremacy to its high esteem.
