RI'S NON-OIL EXPORTS PROJECTED TO GROW 5 PCT
Jakarta, Dec 10 (ANTARA) - Indonesia`s non-oil exports are prediced to grow nominally by five percent in 2010, a National Development Planning Board official said here on Thursday.
"We are predicting in 2010 non-oil exports will grow five percent in line with global economic recovery," the board`s macro-planning director, Bambang Prijambodo, said.
He said the growth of non-oil exports would be mainly supported by the commodity sector which was predicted to enjoy a price hike later in 2010.
"The primary commodities sector will remain a reliable sector for exports," he said.
He said non-oil exports would also be improved by economic recovery in Asia that had performed better than Europe and the US.
He said the Asian economic recovery would depend much on the economic performance in the two regions. "If the economic recovery in Europe and the US is not hindered the Asian recovery will persist but if problems occur to reverse the situation they will certainly affect the region," he said.
He said demand for goods from Asia particularly China and India grew quite well.
"In the third quarter of 2009 India was even able to record 7.9 percent growth and China 8.9 percent. The two giants that also have huge populations certainly play a very important role in promoting recovery in Asia," he said.
He said Indonesia`s non-oil exports in 2009 kept improving in line with global economic recovery. According to the latest National Statistics Agency (BPS) data, the country`s exports in October was the highest in the year.
The BPS recorded non-oil exports in the month reached US$10.16 billion, up 25.54 percent from September or 14.10 percent from the same month last year.
Cummulatively however the value of the non-oil exports from January to October 2009 which reached US$78.24 billion is down 15.13 percent compared to the same period last year.***2***
