PRIYO: GOLKAR HAS NO INTENTION TO IMPEACH YUDHOYONO
Jakarta, Dec 11 (ANTARA) - Deputy House Speaker Priyo Budisantoso said Golkar Party had no intention to impeach President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono in connection with the Century Bank case because the cost would be too much.
"Golkar has had no intention to impeach SBY-Boediono. Yes, the political cost will be too much," he said here on Friday.
The Golkar Party politician said Golkar saw no chance for an impeachment to be carried out. He said Golkar would safeguard the SBY-Boediono administration until the end of its term in 2014.
"Golkar sees no chance to that direction because we wish to safeguard the SBY-Boediono administration until the end of 2014," he said.
On the possibility of Vice President Boediono being questioned by the House Inquiry Committe, Priyo said that it was not yet necessary but he said he would see developments in the field.
However it is very likely that former vice president Jusuf Kalla will be summoned by the committee, he said.
Regarding recent statement from Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, he said he was very disappointed about it. He said Golkar thought it was very arrogant.
"Although the Democrat Party (the ruling party) defends Sri Mulyani, Golkar has its own view about her," he said. "That is not very polite and a bit arrogant," he said.
What is clear is, he said, Sri Mulyani has had a slight emphathy towards Golkar while the party has so far been moderate and empathic towards her.
"Golkar has been moderate and has often praised her but after the statement we have been certainly very disappointed," he said.
Priyo said it was too simplistic to link the setting up of the Century Bank Inquiry Committee with Aburizal (Golkar's chief).
He said if Golkar indeed wished to unseat Sri Mulyani it would have certainly done it from the beginning.
"The general chairman of Golkar, Aburizal Bakrie, has advised us not to target individuals. That is what we hold. Golkar will not disturb Sri Mulyani, Boediono or moreover SBY," he said.
Priyo said Sri Mulyani should not have felt uneasy. "Golkar thinks it is not correct for a finance minister to act like that," he said.
Priyo said the Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) and the Democrat Party had said that Sri Mulyani's statement would not affect the performance of the inquiry committee.
"So let the process go. Just wait the process in the field and see what the result would be," he said.***1***
