S. Korea to host int'l assembly on irrigation in 2014

SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korea will host a general meeting of the world
body of irrigation and drainage in 2014, a state-run company said Friday.

The triennial congress of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage
(ICDC), the 21st of its kind, will be held in South Korea for the first time,
according to the Korea Rural Community Corp.
The New Delhi-based ICDC, established in 1950, is dedicated to enhancing the
worldwide supply of food and fiber by improving water and land management.
"South Korea was successfully selected as the host country after showing our
commitment to water and environment through projects such as the Saemangeum
reclamation work and the ongoing Four Rivers restoration project," a company
official said.
The selection was made at the congress's annual meeting of its International
Executive Council, held in New Delhi this week.
The 20th meeting is scheduled to be held in 2011 in Tehran, Iran, according to
the ICDC's Web site.
