US hopeful of completing the civil nuclear pact soon
New Delhi, Dec 11(PTI) The US is hopeful of completing
the civilian nuclear agreement with India soon, US Ambassador
Timothy J Roemer said Friday.
Welcoming the delegates of the US Commercial Nuclear
Mission to India, he said "this visit invigorates and
underscores the commitment President Obama and Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh made in Washington for our countries to realise
the full potential and aspirations of our landmark civilian
nuclear agreement.
"We hope to complete this landmark agreement soon",
Roemer said.
He said besides leading to the development of clean
energy alternatives and greater access to affordable energy
for the people of India, the pact will also create jobs and
economic opportunities for both the countries.
"It is a strategic win-win for both countries. The
United States of America looks forward to working steadfastly
together with India--building on our unprecedented
accomplishments across the full range of human endeavour--in a
global and enduring partnership that enriches and secures the
lives, wel-lbeing and prosperity of the citizens and future
generations of our countries while shaping the 21st century",
he said.
The delegation, representing 30 of the top commercial
nuclear equipment suppliers from the US, was led by
Westinghouse Electric’s Vice President Meena Mutyala and
GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s Senior Vice President Daniel
Roderick and met with government officials and business
counterparts in Delhi and Mumbai during their week-long visit.
